Deedee Doodle
Deedee: Hello Pam.
Pam: Hey, how are you doing Deedee?
Deedee: I'm doing very well, how are you doing?
Pam: I'm doing great
Deedee: Fabulous!
Pam: So I hear you are going down to London today to do a meet and greet?
Deedee: We are, I know, I'm excited.
Pam: Are you heading down there now?
Deedee: Yes, we are, we're on our way.
Pam: Are you talking to me from a limo?
Deedee: Yup, I'm talking to you just from um (laugh) our vehicle is great
Pam: So are you getting ready for the concert tour?
Deedee: Yes, Oh I can't wait to go back to the same the places we went before. Yeah across the country, with many, many cities we have to hit.
Pam: I know I saw that they added some more shows.
Deedee: Yeah I know, we've had such a great review so we had to do what the audience wants so we've added five more shows we have some more in Calgary, we have some in Edmonton, it's popular demand.
Pam: I know you guys are getting huge.
Deedee: I know it's really, really fun to be a rock star.
Pam: I bet it is and the kids just love you guys.
Deedee: Oh they do and we have a good connection with them.
Pam: And we're really excited, I'm bringing my daughter up to Hamilton.
Deedee: Oh fabulous, I can't wait
Pam: So we are really looking forward to that. Well can you tell me anything about the concert tour?
Deedee: Well we are going to the same cities we went to before. We had only a press tour before just to tell them we were coming back, but now instead of a fifteen minute show, we got maybe over an hour. We have more of a concert feel and we'll have a little story of course we always have this. Moe will hide somewhere everyday. You just never know, we just pull things out of our hat and make it interesting for the kids. We have some new songs maybe some from the second season as well so it's not just our old stuff.
Pam: Oh that will be good
Deedee: Yeah, it is a little more rock star. We have some good, good dances coming your way too.
Pam: It's going to be really exciting, because we haven't seen season two down here in the US yet.
Deedee: No, no I know it is going to be very soon that it airs there. A total transformation…
Pam: Yeah so we're waiting, they are saying March now. We are crossing our fingers.
Deedee: Oh yeah they will be there for sure.
Pam: Tell me some of the changes for season two.
Deedee: Some of our changes are just we have a lot more like the music is a lot different. We have a little bit more of a rock feel with a little pop influence. Along with the times, it's 2006. We have maybe a little bit of a new look. We've polished up our outfits a bit. Now that hoop was kind of getting in the way in my skirt so I've toned that down a little bit.
Pam: I have seen some pictures I think it is a big improvement.
Deedee: Oh it's fabulous. I put some highlights in my hair just for the times cause I see lot of kids now a days with colors and random streaks. So I said, I know I want to fit in so I added some high lights. You know it's just a lot more comfortable.
Pam: Are you rehearsing for the tour now?
Deedee: We are, yes, getting ready and dancing hard. Recording some new songs. It's going to be fun.
Pam: So what about some of the changes from last year in the show? Can you tell us about this?
Deedee: The show actually has some new characters. We have. We never showed behind the scenes at our recording studio last year, so now we're kind of giving you a sneek peak at how we record our music videos and record the songs for everyone to hear. So Audio Murphy is our recording artist and he has a little bit of a scene every show and he is fabulous. You will love him. And we also have a new tour manager. Which is Jazzmin instead of Mazz. Jazz is great she brings a lot of energy to the stage and kind of gets us ready for every concert. Fabulous. So that's some of the changes. There's a lot more animation with the actual show itself on television. We added a lot more depth to how we transform into the bus or the dances are just a little more involved. It's going to be great.
Pam: That is super. So Audio Murphy is a dog right?
Deedee: He is a dog.
Pam: How do him and Mudge get along?
Deedee: They do get along, they're friends. They have interactions. We don't just keep them apart. They don't fight like cats and dogs.
Pam: That's good. So why did you change managers?
Deedee: We just changed managers you know it's nice for artists to have have new feel, different opinions and stuff. It's healthy. So we just thought it's some one else's time to see what they can bring to the band and we're really working out well with her. There's nothing wrong with Mazz but…
Pam: Yeah we loved her but I've seen some pictures of Jazzmin and she seems awesome.
Deedee: Yeah, she is.
Pam: I heard that there are going to be a bunch of toys coming out?
Deedee: Uh huh, yes we have action figures, we have soft dolls of all three of us. We can't wait for those to come out on the market. Now it kind of feels like it's all coming into play with the dolls coming out of our selves.
Pam: I know, what is that like? Have you seen the dolls?
Deedee: We have they're so fabulous. We have a young audience, so they're very soft and they can appeal to any age.
Pam: I know there are quite a few people on the internet that are waiting for those.
Deedee: Backpacks, lunchboxes, t-shirts
Pam: I have seen some of that on Ty's Toys site that those are for sale.
Deedee: Well, my manager is actually telling me we have to get ready and go for the show… so I have to cut this short. So thank you so much.
Pam: Sure Deedee we will see ya'.
Deedee: Bye
Pam: Bye.
Moe Doodle
Moe: Hello
Pam: Hello?
Moe: Hi.
Pam: How are you doing?
Moe: Good. How are you?
Pam: Are you having a happy Valentines Day?
Moe: I am actually. It was an early start to Valentines Day but a good one.
Pam: So you are heading down to London for this meet and greet?
Moe: Yeah, yeah we're just here in London now just kinda getting ready so we're going to go over, it'll be good.
Pam: So the tour is coming up in about a month, how are you feeling about that?
Moe: Uh great, like we haven't really started kind of rehearsing the show yet, but I think it will be similar to what we've done just bigger and better.
Pam: So you're not really into it so you don't know exactly what the layout of the show is going to be?
Moe: Um, well I do a little bit but I think it might be better if it is a surprise. (laughs)
Pam: Ok sounds good. Have you heard when the Doodlebops might be touring in the US?
Moe: Um, I think those dates are kinda, I don't think we've totally started booking for that yet, but I heard rumors about as early as next Fall, but don't quote me on that.
Pam: So here in the US we haven't seen season two yet.
Moe: I know.
Pam: I know. What are some of your favorite changes there?
Moe: Well I have to say a big thing is the bus and the bus dance it's way better now I think then compared to last season. Also our costumes are a little bit different and our make-up and stuff. I think it improved a lot, we kinda learned from season one and (inaudible) season two I guess.
Pam: Kind of move forward. I understand you are now singing live at Doodlebop Central.
Moe: Pardon?
Pam: There is a segment where you are singing live at Doodlebop Central?
Moe: It's kind of us like writing the songs and coming up with the ideas for the songs and stuff. It's kind of a interesting to put in we didn't really talk about us writing the songs and stuff in season one.
Pam: And do you like the new studio segment?
Moe: Yeah, Audio Murphy is amazing
Pam: He is doing a good job as your recording engineer?
Moe: Yeah, it's really great to work with him ya know and kind of getting to write the songs and then go to the recording studio and shoot a music video. It's a really great process.
Pam: Now you guys moved to the CBC studio last year was that a big change?
Moe: It was a huge change actually. CBC is a gorgeous studio and before we shot at a much smaller studio so that was a very welcome change for all of us I think.
Pam: Is there an episode in season two that you think of as your favorite so far?
Moe: I can't think if I have a favorite in season two, they are all really good. I am partial to the Mighty Moe Machine but that is only because I get to break a lot in it.
Pam: So how long does it take you to learn the songs and dances?
Moe: It kind of depends, we're all pretty quick learners some stuff we kind of come up with and learn on the spot and do the take and that's it and other stuff is more rehearsed. It really kind of depends on what it is.
Pam: Was there any dance you can think of that was really hard to learn?
Moe: A dance that was really hard to learn…yeah, Rooney just said moon beam, that was probably the hardest dance to learn, it was also the last dance so it hasn't been on the air yet. Also the last dance we learned, after 25 of them the brain starts to get full.
Pam: So can you tell us any incidences that happened while you were making the show that were funny, something we might not have seen?
Moe: I don't know. I mean. I can't think of anything really off the top of my head. There are like bloopers of us forgetting lines and stuff, but we laugh a lot too sometimes. We'll be doing something or like singing or doing a dance and start laughing and not be able to stop.
Pam: Is there anything you can tell us about Deedee that we might not know from watching the show?
Moe: Anything about Deedee?
Pam: Any secrets?
Moe: I don't know if Deedee has any secrets really.
Pam: Anything she might be different on the set that we might not realize.
Moe: I don't think so we're all pretty like… we are on the show you know, that's pretty much how we're like. Sometimes in the morning when it is really early we'll be a little tired in between takes, but other than that.
Pam: Everyone really loves your breakdancing.
Moe: Thank you.
Pam: How did you get interested in breakdancing?
Moe: I got kind of interested kind of by fluke. First I was kind of interested in gymnastics and then I had a friend who was kind of starting breakdancing and then I kind of started doing it with him and then another guy and that's kind of how we learned.
Pam: How long have you been doing it?
Moe: Uh, four and a half, five years now. Like that I think, yea.
Pam: And watching you, it's obvious you need a lot of strength to do what you do. How do you stay in great shape? Do you work out besides just doing the dancing?
Moe: I do. I go to the gym five days a week. And I do a lot of like running and stuff.
Pam: What type of music or what artists do you like to listen to?
Moe: I guess, like I listen to a lot of hip-hop obviously cause a for like breakdancing and stuff. I really love like James Brown, and a Stevie Wonder , I like Earth,Wind and Fire.
Pam: Old stuff?
Moe: Pardon?
Pam: Really old stuff.
Moe: Yah, it is I guess it's pretty old I did just see James Brown in concert so it's not that old.
Pam: It has lasting appeal I guess. So what do you like to do in your free time?
Moe: Well like I listen to a lot of music and a lot of my free time is like I dance. I get together with people and dance and stuff. And when I'm not shooting the show I have time to relax more, you know and I write music and hang and stuff.
Pam: Well the Doodlebops is meant as a show for young children but you have a lot of older fans. Did this surprise you?
Moe: Yah, I think we're surprised that we like in some ways had any fans at all. When you are kind of like creating a band and a show and stuff you don't really realize working on the inside what people are going to think of it looking from the outside in. So I think that it's amazing that we appeal to a larger demographics.
Pam: And you have become somewhat of a heartthrob. What do you think about that?
Moe: (laughs) I can say that that was a bit of a surprise. I don't, I try not to read too much stuff about that, but people definitely do tell me now and then. It's flattering.
Pam: Well on the internet we get a lot of that.
Ty's Toybox now has these Doodlebop backpacks, lunch boxes and t-shirts. Mattle is licencing the toys. You know your CDs and DVDs are doing great. Did you have any idea that the Doodlebops would be such a merchandizing powerhouse when it started?
Moe: Not at first. There has been talk of merchandise and stuff kind of not right from the beginning but kind of, there was kind of like, oh we're going to have backpacks and toys and stuff and who doesn't dream of having their own action figure or doll or whatever you want to call it. It's a pretty cool thing to have YOU as a toy.
Pam: Have you seen any of the Moe figures?
Moe: I've seen, I haven't actually seen any in like my hand but I've been told they're made….My manager is telling me that I have to wrap this up. So it was great talking to you.
Pam: It was. Anything you want to say to your fans before you go?
Moe: Keep watching and I hope that you guys really like the show and I hope it makes you want to sing and dance as well.
Pam: Well thank you so much Moe.
Moe: Well thank you.
